Samuel de Champlain

June 8th, 2011 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Samuel de Champlain was a French explorer, navigator, and mapmaker. He explored much of eastern Canada and became known as the father of New France, which was the French part of Canada.Champlain was born in Brouage, a city in France. Like his father, as a boy he learned how to navigate ships, and became a naval captain.

In 1603 he went on his first voyage to Canada, as geographer on a fur-trading expedition. He traveled up the Saguenay, St. Lawrence, and Richelieu rivers. He used the information he collected, to make a very accurate map of Canada from Hudson Bay in the north down to the Great Lakes.

In 1604 Champlain made his second trip to North America. He was looking for a place where French people could make a permanent settlement. Champlain remained there for three years.

In 1608, Champlain founded a settlement and trading post along the St. Lawrence River that eventually became the city of Quebec. It was the first permanent white settlement in Canada, which makes Quebec the oldest city in Canada.

He spent most of the rest of his life going back and forth between France and Canada. His goals were to map North America, find a quicker way to get to the Pacific Ocean, and teach North American natives about Christianity.

In 1629 Quebec was captured by the English and Champlain was taken to England as a prisoner. When Canada was returned to France in 1633 he returned to his trading post and remained in Quebec until his death on Christmas Day in 1635.

Life in modern Australia.

Schools in Australia are available for all children from 5-15 years old. Some schools can be more up levelled with the age.Help is available, from all teachers,to children who suffer from learning slowly. The Government of the state will run all public schools.Students start to study as they become an adult.

In all of the parts, states and territories in Australia, people focus a lot on family life. There is a numerous amount of groups in Australia for families in Australia that suffer.

Australia believes that people have the right to work and earn wealth. The Australian leaders expect people to contribute and share their wealth. The labour markets can be quite competitive.Your timing of getting a job depends on your quality and your skill.Sometimes that affects what jobs are open for you.

Wildlife in Australia.

Kangaroos are the most immense marsupials in the world. They are quite dangerous so if you nudged one in your car it would get very annoyed with you. They bounce around in mobs.

Koalas are cute and fluffy but happen to have really sharp claws.People often mistake them for bears but if you were in australia you would instantly be corrected.Koalas only eat eucalyptus leaves and they only come out at night.

Platypie are very good at swimming. They have a beak and a tail like a beavers  tail.Duck -Billt -platypie are the worst.

Wombats are a lot bigger than you think. You could weigh a child and they would be the same weight. You would struggle carrying one.

Hope you like my Australia facts :) :) ;) ;) :) ;)

How happy we are to see Miss Wiggans By Humaira and Rumaisa!!!

May 21st, 2011 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

As we all know Miss Wiggans came back from Australia on the 8th of  May. Miss Wiggans is a great teacher so we were all very happy to see her again, (especially year4). Miss Wiggans was very pleased to see us again too. We all hoped Miss Wiggans was having a great time. Her flight was delayed so it got cancelled. We missed her because we did not have the challenging work ,as some people know Miss Wiggans says,  maths is not maths unless it is challenging. As Miss Wiggans is the kindest teacher she brought  back some Milo that we are going to be having on Friday with some anzac biscuits.

She also brought:

A cork hat

Some magnets

A Sydney Harbour Bridge cap and photo

Some photos of Australia

Some tablecloths

A wombat

A  platypus

Anyway, all that matters is that she’s back!
